Ruby’s Rest is a safe place for mums, particularly if you’re finding parenting your teenage daughters challenging. Come for coffee and home baking; breathe in a peaceful space; connect with other mums who are in a similar place; or just take some time out to relax in one of my comfy couches.

Ruth’s Story……

I’ve been where you are. I am a mum to two adult sons and one adult daughter who were once teenagers. I know the challenges of parenting in those years, especially with my beautiful daughter.

We have a fabulous, close relationship now, but it wasn’t always like that. Her teenage years were tricky and constantly challenging for me. BUT we made it!

Young girls have much more challenges facing them now than they did when mine were growing up. Mobile phones, social media, peer pressure, long hours with nothing to do ‘cos they don’t want to get involved and commit to anything. The little girl who you ferried to gymnastics, ballet, drama, sports etc. no longer wants you to be involved and has distanced herself from you. She doesn’t talk to you any more; she barely even wants to be in the same room as you; nothing you do seems to be right. Everything seems to be a battle. It’s so frustrating!! Easy to think you’ve done something wrong. Easy to fall into the trap of thinking it’s your fault. Let me tell you, it’s not.

Your teenager, like all teenagers, is looking for identity, belonging and purpose and is trying to find her own place in the world. As each girl is different, they each respond in different ways as they navigate their way along the journey. There are many factors influencing them every step they take.

Where does Ruby’s Rest fit in?

What I have to offer in Ruby’s Rest is a safe place for your teenager to come and take a break while she processes all that’s going on in her life. It can be hard to do this at home; and it can be hard to do this hanging out with friends in a shopping centre or park!
